Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing has come to the forefront after decades of quiet work in the background. Developed by Peter Levine, PhD, this therapeutic modality allows the body to lead the process, moving out of more mind-focused traditional talk therapies.
I trained to become an SE Practitioner after spending a year in graduate school at Pacifica Graduate Institute studying Jungian and Depth Psychology.
I’ve always been a “body person”. That doesn’t mean I have any kind of special strength or agility or coordination by any means. In fact, when I was on the track and field team in high school I chose to throw the shot put and discus so I could ditch the running. Funnily enough, years later in 1998 I ran my first Marathon and in 2003 I walked a couple of weeks on the Camino de Santiago. Both of those very physical activities helped me to pay more attention to my body and to value her more than I had been, to trust her and what she has to say.
I’d like to help you invite your body to release its long-held tensions around fear and pain.
